OC said he was arrested, Akash's status 75 minutes later

Police have confirmed the arrest of Sibgatullah alias Akash Chowdhury, who came into discussion for kicking a woman during the Ganatantrik Chhatra Jote program in the Chattogram Press Club area. However, discussions and criticisms have been sparked as Akash Chowdhury posted a status from his personal Facebook ID one hour and 15 minutes after being arrested.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Karim confirmed that he was arrested from the Laldighi area of the city on Sunday (June 1) afternoon. He said, we arrested him around 3:00 PM. He will be shown arrested in the relevant case and produced before the court. Meanwhile, around 4:00 PM, one hour and 15 minutes after being arrested by the police, Akash Chowdhury posted a status from his personal Facebook ID. There he wrote, I heard the administration is looking for me.

I am neither a thief nor a robber, why should the administration look for me. Upon the decision of my family and close ones, I am announcing my surrender to the Chattogram Kotwali Police Station today. When asked about Akash Chowdhury's surrender status, Kotwali Police Station OC Md. Abdul Karim said, that is his own matter. Our statement is that we have arrested him.

When asked about Akash Chowdhury posting a surrender declaration status a little over an hour after his arrest, Kotwali Police Station OC Md. Abdul Karim said, I cannot say anything about that. A text message was sent from the media branch of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police regarding the arrest of Akash Chowdhury. It mentioned that on May 28, a person named Akash Chowdhury kicked a woman of the left student alliance in front of the Chattogram Press Club and created a delicate and unstable situation at the scene.

When the video of the incident went viral on social media, Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Imam Hossain along with his force collected various footage and identified the accused. Later, on June 1, the accused was arrested by conducting a drive in the Laldighi field area of Kotwali Police Station. He will be shown arrested in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act at Kotwali Police Station. Source: RTV
