The incident took place yesterday, Monday, at around 9:45 am in the alley beside the Madhabdi municipality branch. The victim Md. Selim Mia (43) works as the head of the investment department of Islami Bank and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Describing the incident, several officials of the Madhabdi municipal branch said that on the morning of March 27, 9 to 10 Islami Chhatra Shibir activists came to the bank to collect donations. As it was right before Eid, there was a crowd at the bank that day.

At this time, they started collecting donations by pushing through the crowd. At one point, when they went to the desk of Md. Selim Mia, he told them, "Instead of collecting like this, sit in one place." At this time, he assigned an official to hand over the donation collection. This was not to the liking of the Shibir activist. Officials said that on the afternoon of that day, under the leadership of Madhabdi municipal Jamaat Ameer Aminul Islam, Shibir leaders and activists came to the bank again.

At this time, the said leader told the branch manager Abu Sayeed that Selim Mia should be called into his room. After entering the manager's room, Jamaat-Shibir people started talking aggressively to Selim without listening to anything. At one point, they threatened to cut off Selim Mia's hands and feet. The manager protested. Selim Mia said that following that incident, yesterday 10-12 Shibir activists dragged him to the alley and beat him severely. When colleagues came forward, the attackers fled.

He said, "The attackers often come to collect donations, so even if I don't know their names, I recognize them. If two colleagues hadn't come forward, I don't know what would have happened today." Abu Sayeed, the branch manager of the bank, said that Shibir leaders and activists carried out this incident after failing to collect donations. He said, "They were angry because cases of loan default were recently filed against at least 40 people including three Jamaat leaders. The matter was informed to the senior officials of the head office and zonal office and the thana Jamaat Ameer.

Madhabdi Thana Jamaat Ameer Zafarullah Khan said, "Hearing about the incident, we went to the bank. This is unexpected, we will resolve it." Madhabdi Police Station OC Md. Nazrul Islam said, "The bank authorities have submitted a written complaint. Police have started an investigation, legal action is under process." Hospital doctor Fatima Akhter said there are injury marks on Selim Mia's body.
