After kicking a woman and denying ties, Jamaat-Shibir activists welcome him with flower garlands following expulsion

Akash Chowdhury, who was arrested for getting involved in the incident of kicking a woman from behind in Chattogram, was seen being welcomed with flowers after being released on bail, and standing smiling beside him is Abrar Hasan Riyad, the publication secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chattogram Metropolitan North. Akash Chowdhury is the son of Jamaat leader and former councilor Neshar Ahmed. He is a resident of Satkania upazila and was involved in Islami Chhatra Shibir politics. Currently, he is known as an active activist of Jamaat.

In a statement on May 30, Chattogram Metropolitan Jamaat expelled him from the party over the incident of harassing a woman. However, the way he was welcomed with flowers on Wednesday (June 4) after his release on bail questions the party's previous statement. Abrar Hasan Riyad, who was seen beside Akash in the photos of putting flower garlands and greeting him, is not only a Shibir leader, he is also known as the chief coordinator of 'July Oikyo Chattogram'.

Recently, he also delivered a speech at the Eid reunion event of the Shilakupa union branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. On the day of the attack, he was also seen playing an active role and talking to the police. Notably, on the afternoon of May 28, the Democratic Student Alliance was holding a human chain program near the Chattogram Press Club. They were protesting the acquittal of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam from crimes against humanity and the attack on the student alliance in Rajshahi.

Shortly after the program began, an attack was carried out under the banner of 'Shahbagh Birodhi Oikyo' where a person named Akash Chowdhury was seen kicking a female activist from behind. Then he turned around and hit another person as well. Following this incident, the Chattogram Metropolitan North branch of Islami Chhatra Shibir stated in a press release, "Chhatra Shibir has no involvement with this incident. False propaganda is being spread by intentionally involving our name."

However, one of the people who welcomed him with flowers now is Shibir leader Abrar Hasan Riyad, who was active on behalf of Shahbagh Birodhi Oikyo on the day of the attack. On the other hand, Chattogram Metropolitan Jamaat stated in a press release on May 30, "Akash Chowdhury participated in that program without the permission of the organization and his activities are condemnable. He has been expelled for this."
