Elderly man commits suicide in Habiganj due to loan burden and mental stress

An elderly man named Ejajur Rahman (55) has allegedly committed suicide due to loan burden and mental stress in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district. The incident took place at his own home in Dighalbak village on Saturday (June 14) afternoon. He is the son of Rashid Mia of the same village. Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Md. Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter of the deceased. Family members said that Ejajur Rahman committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his room without the knowledge of others.

Upon receiving the information, a team of police led by Inatganj outpost SI Anik Pal reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Habiganj Modern District Sadar Hospital. Former UP member Mohsin Mia said that Ejajur Rahman had been suffering from a burden of debt for a long time. It is suspected that he finally took such a decision due to financial crisis and mental stress. A shadow of grief has descended upon the entire area following this incident.
