Over 50 workers fall ill after drinking tap water during tiffin break in Gazipur

Over 50 workers of a factory fell ill after drinking tap water during the tiffin break in Gazipur. Most of them are female workers. Following the incident, the factory was declared closed immediately. The incident took place at around 9:30 am today, Saturday, at a factory named 'International Classic Composite Limited' in the Naojor area of Gazipur city. Industrial police and several workers of the factory said that the workers of the factory drank water from the tap during the tiffin break as usual at around 9:30 am today.

A short while later, the workers developed stomach pain and diarrhea. When the workers reacted angrily to the incident, the sick workers were taken to nearby hospitals. Later, the factory authorities immediately declared the factory closed. Factory worker Mehedi Hasan said that about three and a half thousand workers work in the factory. Many came to work in the morning and drank water during tiffin time. Immediately after that, they started falling ill. They have been admitted to local hospitals in the factory ambulance.

Regarding the matter, Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent AKM Zahirul Islam said that workers drink water supplied by the factory every day. Today, when they drank that water of the factory, 40-50 people felt stomach pain and fell ill. Most of the sick workers are women. The factory has been declared closed following the incident.
