Over a hundred workers laid off right before Eid, protest on highway

Workers staged a protest and took positions on the highway demanding the reinstatement of over a hundred workers laid off in the Baimail area under Konabari Police Station of Gazipur City Corporation. On Saturday (March 29) morning, workers of Standard Issues Oven (FF Tower) factory carried out this protest and blockade program. According to police and local sources, more than a hundred workers were laid off from the Standard Issues Oven factory located in the Baimail area of Konabari just two days before Eid.

Protesting this incident, the workers started demonstrations in the morning and at one point blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Md. Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said, "The workers started protesting against the layoff and blocked the highway for some time. Later, we persuaded them and calmed the situation."
