Modest Limited workers demonstrate in CEPZ demanding unpaid wages and bonuses

Hundreds of workers of MS Modest Limited, a garment factory in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), staged a demonstration blocking a road for four hours on Monday (May 19) demanding unpaid wages and Eid Eid bonuses. The angry workers took position at the city's Freeport intersection from 2 pm. The workers alleged that the bonus for the last Eid-ul-Fitr has not been paid yet. Besides, even though half of May has passed, they have not received their April wages either. Although the owner's side assured them multiple times, they did not implement the promise.

Initially, the workers started demonstrating in front of the factory from 8 am. However, as the owner's side did not give any satisfactory answer, they left the CEPZ area at noon and blocked the Freeport intersection. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the city's EPZ Police Station Md. Aktaruzzaman said, "Workers of a factory have blocked the road demanding unpaid wages and bonuses. We first tried to remove them peacefully. But they did not leave. Now the BEPZA authorities have contacted the factory owner.
